[Week 9]
I signed up for a bike race. It takes place in May on a local route I’ve ridden many times, but never competitively.
Based on participant finish times from the past two years, to confidently come in last place I need to shave about 45 minutes off of my moving time.
While I don’t intend to compete with the elite, and I’ve no intention of becoming a real athlete, my personal goal for this race is this:
“Try not to be very last but, if you are very last, know that it will still be the most personally meaningful lap of this route you’ve ridden many times.”
Needless to say, I have much practicing to do in the next couple of months and I’m grateful to be healthy enough to have this goal and to have a positive distraction from the general horrors of our time.
Ride 8/52 was the perfect start to practice season. 10km distance, and 370m elevation. Excellent company of riding friends.
